Remote and Offshore Medicine programme

Remote & Offshore Medicine

We are recruiting now for the next intake of the popular Remote and Offshore Medicine programme. The aim of the programme is to provide health professionals working in remote, and in some instances potentially hazardous, locations with the knowledge and skills to operate effectively in this environment using an evidence- based approach.

Providing clinical care in remote locations has its own unique challenges and requires specialist knowledge and skills. This course, delivered online at a distance, provides an opportunity for practising remote health professionals to gain a postgraduate qualification in this emerging specialty.

This programme is aimed at health professionals working in remote and offshore locations internationally. It is intended that students can study part time, online while working. It is very flexible allowing students to study individual modules as CPD or to combine them to complete a postgraduate Certificate or Diploma.

"This postgraduate programme's focus is on the remote and offshore environment and not on 'front-country' aspects. It includes a lot more academic theory and ligher-level approaches intending to provide the skillls and knowledge to serve you in the managerial/executive and advisory/consultancy side as a subject matter expert. Student Residential

Diploma students gathered in the College on 24 and 25 October to attend the residential component of their studies which included a hands on session in the surgical skills centre. They also enjoy a meal out with students from some of the College's other Postgraduate Programmes.

CPD Options for September 2014

Following on from the success of the Certificate and Diploma programmes, we launch individual modules in CPD format four times a year in January, March, June and September. This September students can sign up to study the following modules:

Dive Medicine
Trauma and Medical Emergencies
Tactical Medicine
Expedition and Wilderness Medicine

CPD students study alongside our Diploma students and can benefit from being integrated into a community of practice alongside their peers.

ELC Learning Provider

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is pleased to announce that it has been accepted as an Approved Learning Provider in the Ministry of Defence's Enhanced Learning Credit (ELC) Scheme for its Remote and Offshore Medicine postgraduate programme.

This new ELC accreditation means that service men and women will be able to apply for funding towards the cost of the programme at either Certificate or Diploma level. The DipROM Programme is also accredited by the ACRRM (Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine).
